1. Formal Properties of the Photographic Series
This photographic series will feature carefully composed images of my uncle’s bobblehead, emphasizing its unique physical features, such as its polished finish, exaggerated proportions, and nodding head. The photos will incorporate a variety of backgrounds, including blurred digital screens, as seen in the attached image, and simple, solid-color backdrops to create interesting contrasts. Lighting will be used to highlight reflective surfaces and add depth to the images, bringing out the details of the figurine. The color scheme will include bold contrasts, ensuring the bobblehead’s dark suit and glasses stand out against bright or softly blended backgrounds. The compositions will range from close-up shots that showcase small details to wider shots that set the bobblehead in different environments, adding an element of storytelling to the series.
2. Conceptual Intentions and Aims
This series explores themes of identity, memory, and humor through the lens of a custom-made bobblehead. By photographing this caricature of my uncle in both familiar and unexpected settings, the project reflects on how we preserve memories and turn them into physical objects that are both sentimental and playful. The series will use humor and creativity to convey these ideas, such as placing the bobblehead in situations or with props that connect to my uncle’s personality or create ironic contrasts. Through these techniques, the series aims to balance lighthearted fun with a deeper reflection on how small objects can represent a person’s legacy and identity in surprising and meaningful ways.
