I've heard that a good way to overcome insecurity about something is to really stare it down. For this project, I chose to take pictures of people's necks at a strange and unusual angle, because my own neck is something I can get a little self conscious about. I tried to deliberately remove any humanizing characteristics from the frame of each shot, partly because it looks more alien to me that way, partly because some of the people I shot also seemed to express some embarrassment about their own necks.
