For my first idea, I have chosen to photograph doorknobs. For these photographs, I plan on having the doorknob or drawer pull take up the middle third of the photograph, and having the door slightly open. I would like to include the darkness of the room that the door leads to in the shot, and maybe also some background of what is in the foreground of the room. I would like to include a wide variety of doorknobs, hopefully some older ornate ones, and some more modern looking ones.
I would like this series to convey the passage of time, and how trends and styles evolve. By photographing doorknobs, I hope to convey how architecture reflects the styles that are popular at the time, and how we experience trends in our everyday lives. I will use techniques such as focusing the camera solely on the doorknob, to ensure it captures all the detail, as well as decreasing the brightness of the photo to have the focal point be the doorknob. I hope that these techniques will make the differences between the doorknobs apparent.
