For this photograph/photo series the main subject would be different Rhino figurines and collectibles that I have accumulated over the last 21 years of my life. The rhinoceros is an animal of beauty and strength that are native to both Africa and Asia, and have been my favorite animal since the day that I was born. Because rhinos are found in different regions and climates of the world, I think it would be interesting to travel around to different environments around town to shoot different backgrounds for each photograph. The main subject of each photograph would be the rhinoceros, with possible differing backgrounds, lighting, and positioning in the frame. I think based on my idea to shoot at different locations it may be interesting to pursue color photographs. However because rhinos are naturally grey, black and white may also look good.
I intend for this photo series to convey the glory and pure beauty of this animal through a toy and collectible stand point. As someone who lives in Tucson, AZ with no real access to go see these creatures in their true native habitat, I have turned to collecting and decorating my room with this fantastic creature. Through this series I hope to not only display the intimidating yet harmless rhino's persona, but also show the true childlike spirit that an animal can bring out in a young adult. Over my 21 years of having this favorite animal, I have been able to accumulate quite a few different variations and models that would not only show my dedication to this interest, but also how I have grown up as well. Having everything from my "teddy bear" in my bed to a wall hanger for my keys, I hope that the many different incarnations of this single subject matter I own are able to convey my curiosity and interest. Shooting some of the photos both inside my room as well as outside in some different environments may add to the overall imagery I am trying to pass along as well.
