Earworms can be annoying, but there’s something really special about them too. Maybe these won’t be songs that would get lost in everyone’s ears, or top your year-in-review charts, but if you’re an indie-freak like me (alla Fleet Foxes, alla Snail Mail, alla Beach House), they may have a way of squirming and sticking around a while like a friendly little ghost.

As someone who also listens to a lot of indie music and has a primarily song-stuck-in-head mode of interacting with music, I really appreciate this blog!

Page that indexes the type and location of every(?) fossil that's been found throughout the world, on a map. You can also search by taxonomy. I'm not totally sure how to read the information that pops up when you click a fossil entry, but even just looking at the patterns of distribution on the map is very interesting.

Website where you can select a song and it will generate a probabilistically "infinite" version of the song where it jumps back and forth between similar sections of the song. It's pretty impressive how well it works. It effectively simulates the feeling of having a song stuck in your head looping over and over. I'm a big fan.

To play a custom song, select "Pick a song" at the top. For some reason that button doesn't seem to show up on phone so go here to pick a song. Probably my favorite I've found so far is "No Sunlight" by Death Cab For Cutie, since that song is repetitive enough to link together in funny ways, but distinct enough in different parts that it doesn't just sound the same.

A blog about various types of moths that's been going for over 15 years and is still active! It's specifically about moths that the blog proprietor spots and takes photos of around where he lives in England, which is pretty fantastic. It's always great to see someone so committed to sharing their passions like this.

Little web tool for creating Droste images, which are images that contain a copy of themselves. You can upload your own images and you can also set it to zoom in or out of the full image. It's kind of a trippy effect. The examples aren't a great example of the effect though so I recommend using your own pictures.

Amazing old school British website about cats, updated as recently as 2021. Contains a lot of random information and news stories about cats doing funny things. I'm so charmed by the retro aesthetic of this page. Be sure to check out all the various pages linked on the left-hand sidebar as well.

Cute article about a project where the author painted his car with 'blackboard paint' and had his kids decorate it with various (mostly monster-themed) designs. This seems like an awesome project, honestly, big fan.
