Little web tool for creating Droste images, which are images that contain a copy of themselves. You can upload your own images and you can also set it to zoom in or out of the full image. It's kind of a trippy effect. The examples aren't a great example of the effect though so I recommend using your own pictures.

Amazing old school British website about cats, updated as recently as 2021. Contains a lot of random information and news stories about cats doing funny things. I'm so charmed by the retro aesthetic of this page. Be sure to check out all the various pages linked on the left-hand sidebar as well.

Cute article about a project where the author painted his car with 'blackboard paint' and had his kids decorate it with various (mostly monster-themed) designs. This seems like an awesome project, honestly, big fan.

Personal website of a guy who's been making logic computer games since 1991. Love the retro graphics. Many of these have thousands and thousands of levels, wow. There's a lot of cool content here and it seems like he still updates it. Some of the games are also available for Android (though not iPhone :( ) -- I've been playing Honeycomb Hotel on my phone, which is kind of insane but very interesting.

A cool game. You have to be using last.fm to track your music history, but if you are on last.fm, it takes your top tracks and quizzes you on the lyrics from them -- "what song is this from, who's it by, and what's the next line?" I find it surprisingly compelling, I keep falling into the "ok just one more round" effect. I think I'm pretty decent at it, I can consistently score above 70 on my top 500 all-time tracks. (With all-time top 1000, it gets a bit trickier...)

(if you're not on last.fm -- it's a music-statistics-tracking site that works with any music service (even your local mp3 collection!) and has been around since 2002. I signed up for it a few years ago, it's fun to mess around and look at your stats.)

A pangram is a sentence that uses all the letters in the alphabet of a given language. The most famous one in English is, of course, The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

A perfect pangram is a pangram that uses every letter exactly once. In some languages with different writing systems, some very cool perfect pangrams are possible. I'm fond of the Japanese Iroha and the Javanese Hanacaraka sequence, which are both not only perfect pangrams but also poems.

Unfortunately, most perfect pangrams in English kind of suck because of the paucity of vowel letters. They're all nonsense like Crwth vox zaps qi gym fjeld bunk and the like. If you permit abbreviations, you get the more sensible Mr. Jock, TV quiz PhD, bags few lynx, which is fairly well known. But this blog post manages to construct an English perfect pangram (with abbreviations) which is not only vaguely sensible, but actually describes a real-life event! Truly, a towering achievement.

A website cataloguing the escapades of the MV Dirona, a boat based in Seattle which appears to be owned by a couple who have used it to travel all around the world (including several voyages across the ocean!)

They have an interactive map of everywhere the boat has traveled, and blog posts about the various locations they have visited. As well as a lot of information about the boat itself, if you're into that kind of thing. Looks like they've been updating it since at least 2011. Hey, cool website!
